About Tamara Barschak and the Kaleidoscope Quartet

Tamara Barschak trained as a classical pianist in London and Paris subsequently branching out into funk, jazz, blues and world music. A long time fan of Brazilian music, she travelled to Rio de Janeiro where she spent the next three years studying music from the Brazilian canon.

Tamara is also a singer and sings in Brazilian Portruguese as well as English.

The Kaleidoscope Quartet is Tamara's brainchild. Inspired by the many genres she grew up with in London, the music combines such multi genres as Jazz, Blues, Funk, Soul, Folk and Bossanova. The quartet features some of the UK's finest musicians; saxophonist and bass clarinettist Tom Smith, bass player Davide Mantovani and drummer Kari Paavola. The band have played to packed houses all over London, delighting audiences with their soul-stirring melodies and mesmeric grooves.

Released in 2022, Tamara's album Kaleidoscope was hailed by Neil March of Resonance FM as an incredible debut, calling the music 'a set of lovingly crafted and really accomplished contemporary jazz-infused songs'. Renowned British saxophonist Kim Cypher, played the track 'Rivers of You' from Tamara's album 'Kaleidoscope' on her Jazz Radio Show 'We Are The Big Jazz Hullabaloo' describing the music as 'incredibly haunting and beautiful'.

In December 2024, Tamara was featured in the 'Women In Jazz' Media Magazine, in an interview that explored her musical background, style and future projects.
